The 236th regiment used the MiG-17 ‘Fresco’ type as a fighter bomber aircraft for twenty years until 1975 at the Chortkov airport.
Before they were given the new, state-of-the-art MiG-27, three squadron second-hand MiG-21PFS/PFM ‘Fishbed-F’ was used as a temporary fighter bomber for two years. The high-speed attack was learned by the staff on these MiG-21 type. The staff was trained in 1977 for the new and final MiG-27 ‘Flogger-D’ variable-geometry ground-attack aircraft in Lipetsk Training Center.
